Names most likely to make us smile and frown discovered
The Oral Health Foundation has undertaken research to find out which names make the British public smile the most and the least. The study was undertaken as part of National Smile Month, which aims to increase the awareness over the importance of our oral health.
George and Emily were the most likely names to make us smile, whilst June, Donna, Helen, Louise, and Lisa were found to be the women’s names most likely to wipe a smile from our faces.
Male names topping the poll of name most likely to make us frown were David and Jeremy. Dr Nigel Carter OBE, CEO of the Oral Health Foundation, stated that “Politicians are rarely the most popular people but at such a politically charged time it seems that even the mention of some of our top politician names such as, David and Jeremy, is enough to swiftly banish our smiles.”
Dr Carter went on to note that “Obviously this research is very subjective; we all have that one person in our lives that makes us grin from ear to ear and one that can quickly turn our smiles upside down.”
“A smile can make ourselves, and the people around us, feel better and they are hugely contagious so we should all try to keep those people close to us that make us smile,” he said.
“The benefits of maintaining a healthy mouth also go far beyond that of our social lives,” Dr went on to state. “There is increasing evidence that poor oral health is related to serious conditions such as cardiac disease, strokes, diabetes and even problems in pregnancy.”
National Smile Month runs from the 16th of May to the 16th of June. The event aims to increase the awareness of the importance of oral hygiene, and get Britain looking after its dental and oral health.
