7 tips to keep your teeth stain-free
Having a bright smile can be an important factor in improving self-esteem and making a good impression. If you want to keep your pearly whites in tip top condition to keep your smile happy, here are seven tips you can follow for stain-free teeth!
1. Chew sugar-free gum.
One way to keep your teeth stains free is to chew sugar-free gum. If you chew gum after a meal, the saliva flow in your mouth will be increased, and will help wash food debris off your teeth to keep them clean.
2. Limit the amount of stain-causing foods and beverages you eat and drink.
In order to keep your smile bright, it is important that you limit the amount of dark-coloured foods and beverages you eat and drink, such as tea, coffee, red wine, tomato sauce and beets. The chromogens in these foods and drinks can stick to your dental enamel, which can cause stains. When you eat these foods and beverages, rinse your mouth out with water afterwards to prevent stains.
3. Remember to floss.
Regular flossing can prevent teeth stains. When you floss, you remove plaque, which can leave stains on your teeth. Try to floss once a day.
4. Use a straw.
When you drink a dark beverage, such as coffee or tea, use a straw to prevent them from having direct contact with your teeth to prevent stains.
5. Stop smoking.
As well as reducing the risk of lung cancer and heart disease, quitting smoking can help reduce tooth stains. The nicotine and tar in cigarettes will stick to your teeth, which causes discoloration.
6. Drink cooler coffee.
If you need a cup of coffee to help you wake you up, try drinking it lukewarm. When coffee is hot, it can cause tiny fractures on your teeth, which makes them more susceptible to stains.
7. Don’t skip professional dental cleanings.
Getting a professional dental cleaning twice a year won’t just prevent cavities and gum disease: it can also keep your teeth stain-free. The dental hygienist will remove hardened plaque and tartar from your teeth, leaving them clean and stain-free.
