Mellor Ceramics drives support for British Bite Mark

Support is growing for the British Bite Mark, with cars recently spotted in the Stockport area bearing the campaign’s distinctive logo.
The vehicles belong to Mellor Ceramics Dental Laboratory, a Stockport-based dental lab. Previously the laboratory placed the British Bite Mark logo on their lab tickets – now they have made strides by displaying it on the sides of their company cars too.
The laboratory decided to decorate the cars not only with their contact details but also the red, white and blue logo with the aim of raising awareness of the British Bite Mark campaign both for the public and for others in the industry.
Tom Ogden, owner of Mellor Ceramics, explained the reasoning behind the unique design choice: “I wanted to prick the conscience of dentists who send their work to China. The more people that know about [the British Bite Mark] the better. Dentists should have to tell their patients where their work comes from.”
“When we drive around everybody sees [the logo] – dentists see it.”
The British Bite Mark campaign was launched earlier this year by the Dental Laboratories Association in response to growing concern over increasing numbers of dentists who choose to order dental appliances from abroad. Overseas dental laboratories do not have to conform to UK standards and as such may pose hidden risks to UK dental patients.
By displaying the British Bite Mark logo dental laboratories can show that they produce dental appliances, such as crowns, bridges, implants and partial and full dentures, which have been manufactured in the UK under the UK’s strict material and professional standards. Dental professionals and dental clinics can also display the logo to illustrate that they only use dental appliances which have been made in the UK.
