British Bite Mark gains support from Ed Miliband

Labour leader Ed Miliband is showing his support for the Dental Laboratories Association’s British Bite Mark campaign.

Since its launch in March 2012, the British Bite Mark has attracted plenty of attention from the dental community, patients and politicians alike.  Its aim is to highlight the differences in quality and safety between dental appliances manufactured in the UK and Europe and those manufactured elsewhere in countries like China and India.

The British Bite Mark logo is displayed on UK-manufactured dental appliances, including crowns, bridges, partial and full dentures, implants and anti-snoring devices.  It indicates that the appliances have been manufactured in the UK under the UK’s strict material and professional standards, such as those set by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency.

Since learning about the campaign and its promotion of UK manufacturing standards, Ed Miliband has been firm in supporting the cause.  The leader of the Labour party said: “I am delighted that the Dental Laboratories Association is launching a mark to support UK dental laboratories. It is an important way to highlight and celebrate the contribution that British dental manufacturing makes to the UK economy in terms of growth, jobs and innovation.  I wish the DLA great success with their campaign.”

The Dental Laboratories Association’s Chief Executive, Richard Daniels, had this to say in response to Mr Miliband’s comments: “It is a fantastic boost to British dental technology that Ed Miliband has reacted so positively to the British Bite Mark.  I hope that with such significant political awareness of our campaign we will see the British Bite Mark become as familiar as many other campaigns that support work in the UK.”

Thanks to the British Bite Mark campaign, any recipient of a UK-manufactured dental appliance can now expect to receive a ‘statement of conformity’ which carries information on the materials used to produce the appliance, the place of manufacture, and the registration number of the professional responsible.
