When prescribed a denture, how long does it take after I have had teeth removed?

Smoking slows down healing in lower jaw after implants

Under ‘normal’ circumstances dentures can be fitted as soon as your teeth have been removed, these will be referred to as an ‘immediate denture’.  This will be possible due to your dentist/clincial dental technican taking the appropriate impressions and core details of your mouth during a previous visit .

You wouldn’t usually be required to wait for your denture whilst your gums heal, however you may have shrinkage in your gum and bones over time, particularly the first six month after following the removal of your teeth.  Should this be the case your dentures may require re-aligning, adjusting or in some cases replacing.

It is not uncommon for dentists to advise that it is better to wait until your gums are healed (which may take several months) before having your dentures fitted.
