Partial dentures are the perfect solution for patients with several missing teeth either in the upper or lower jaw.

These are a plate which contains a number of false teeth made from plastic acrylic or cobalt chrome, known as light alloy. Both types can be fitted with clasps to remaining natural teeth to help keep the dentures in place.

It will usually only take a few trips to a clinical dental technician for an all-acrylic partial denture to be made. The first is dedicated to taking moulds and matching the tooth shade and bite registration. A metal framework can take considerably longer to ensure it fits properly.

In terms of cost, all-acrylic partial dentures are relatively cheap compared to the cobalt chrome framework, due to the cost of the metals which need to be cast to fit the mouth and teeth for support.

However the metal framework in cobalt chrome partial dentures do not contact the gums, meaning the their are no signs of shrinkage, allowing patients to rarely requires return for a reline.

Partial dentures are a great alternative for a number of circumstances. They can act as a temporary treatment while waiting for the completion of permanent treatment. They can also be a permanent solution for patients wishing to keep some of their existing teeth.
