Dental Bridges

Dental Bridge

Dental bridges are used to bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth.  They join artificial teeth permanently to adjacent teeth or dental implants in order to replace missing teeth in the mouth.

A dental bridge is made up of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap, known as abutment teeth, and one or more false teeth in between.  These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or combinations of these materials.

Before the false teeth are inserted the existing abutment teeth must be reduced in size to accommodate the new material.  The amount and type of reduction done to these teeth varies depending on the materials used for the dental bridge.
